The ZEV Alliance hosted a deep-dive workshop on the topic of EV fire safety in enclosed spaces. The workshop attendees included representatives from IZEVA members California, Canada, Netherlands, New York, NESCAUM, New Zealand, Québec, and Rhode Island. It featured presentations from Anna Stanzel, fire safety expert at the Austrian fire safety association BVS Oberösterreich, and Sean Gilmore, Scientific Policy Advisor at the UK Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV).
The discussion first focused on what is known thus far regarding the risks associated with EV fires and how they may differ from fires associated with combustion engine vehicles. From there, government representatives shared the efforts their jurisdictions are undertaking to mitigate those risks. This included the development of new policies and regulations, research efforts, and training programs to prepare emergency responders to address EV fires effectively.
