Berlin, Germany

On May 17 and 18, 2022, the ZEV Alliance gathered for their first in-person Assembly meetings since 2019, following two years of virtual Assemblies due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Assembly was hosted by the German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, with the primary meetings taking place in Berlin and side visits taking place in Leipzig. For the first time, the Assembly featured hybrid participation during the business meetings in order to enable broader participation by all of our members. The ZEV Alliance member governments were joined at the Assembly by observers from Austria, Portugal, Sweden, and Switzerland, as well as key partners in the Climate Group and the European Climate Foundation. The members discussed their priorities, ongoing activities, recruitment of new members, communications strategy, and plans to implement the ZEV Alliance’s new commitments made at COP 26 in 2021. The hosts also organized a pre-Assembly tour of the e-Highway for catenary electric trucks outside of Frankfurt am Main and a tour of the Volkswagen Zwickau-Mosel plant producing electric cars. The Assembly ended by joining the ITF Summit in Leipzig, where the ZEV Alliance co-organized an interactive workshop on accelerating the transition to zero-emission freight vehicles with the Global Drive to Zero.
